File Sharing and Piracy

A debate about file sharing at present: piracy has a growing number of supporters? Illegal downloads compromise the productivity of a country? Who is harmed in the process? How permissive can or can not be legislation to contemplate productivity, and the associated ethics like those of intellectual property?

Rick Falkvinge - Founder of the Swedish Pirate Party

Rick Falkvinge is the founder of the first Pirate Party and a campaigner for next-generation civil liberties and sensible information policy. In particular, he stresses how the copyright industries work in collusion with Big Brother hawks to erode or eliminate the parts of Internet that guarantee our civil liberties.

Rui Seabra - ANSOL President

Rui Seabra is an IT professional specialized in the area of Free Software, with a degree in Computer Science from the University of Minho, and currently he is the chairman of the board of the National Association for Free Software (Associação Nacional para o Software Livre - ANSOL).

Luís Rede de Sousa - Chairman of the Board at Assoft

Graduated in Chemical Engineering from IST, Technology and Indistry branch, had an early interest in computers and personal computation, which led him to start his career in an information systems provider, Time Sharing.

Throughout his career, he developed a taste for the commercial and management area, having always worked in information systems companies like Infor and Microsoft, always developing business close to the SME market.

Recently, he began his career as an enterpreneur, taking place in BSP Consulting, an IT services company for SMEs who is relocating to support the offer in the cloud, and took over Assoft - Portuguese Association of Software (Associação Portuguesa de Software).

Miguel Afonso Caetano - Researcher in Communication Sciences and New Media

Miguel Afonso Caetano is currently a PhD student of Communication Sciences at ISCTE-IUL, also being a fellow of the research project "Utilizadores e distribuidores. Comunicação em rede e o Cinema Europeu nas redes P2P" (Users and distributers. Network communication and European Cinema on P2P networks") from CIES-IUL, financed by FCT.

Graduated in Social Communication from Universidade Católica Portuguesa and a master in Communication, Culture and Information Technologies by ISCTE-IUL, possesses professional experience in technology journalism. [EN]
